42-16162823Running is one of the best forms of exercises that you can do. It is a great cardiovascular workout and really tones you up as well. For a beginner, or for the rest of us who haven’t ran in years, running can be a little intimidating. Here are a few tips for beginners runners, or those of us that hasn’t been too active for awhile.

1. Clothing is more important than you think. if you are going to get serious about running you need the right gear, right! The single most important piece of apparel is your shoes. You need excellent running shoes to run in otherwise you will do damage to your feet or you will not be able to run very far. So, don’t skimp here, get the best ones you can afford. Secondly, cotton socks will give you blisters-it is best to get socks especially designed for running. For women, it is also essential to get a supportive bra to hold everything in place comfortably while you run.

2. Half of the battle is motivation. Running is not easy, especially when you first start out. Half of the battle is getting the motivation to train and also be patient with yourself. You can’t expect to run a marathon within the first couple of weeks or even months of training. If you have the motivation and patience to train your body slowly, you will eventually be able to reach your fitness goals.

3. Nutrition is key. As with any physical activity, what you feed your body has everything to do with performance. Eating balanced meals and staying away from fatty foods is going to help your running develop. Also, for each pound you lose the easier running becomes. You will find that once you start to eat healthy you will feel so great that you won’t go back to your bad food habits.

Many people find that joining a running group is a good introduction to the sport. It can be hard to start out by yourself and often times the motivation is missing. if you don’t want to join a running group, find a workout buddy that is about the same physical level as yourself so that you can train together.

tkobe-picDoes Kobe Bryant wear Springbak Springsoles? Rumor has it. Ok, the answer is no, but we wish we could afford his endorsement! However, several pro athletes do wear our patented high performance shoe insoles.

Lucky to have a second chance, the Los Angeles Lakers grabbed it. Kobe Bryant and Co. held on and are in control of the NBA finals-just barely. If Orlando doesn’t come back and win a game in the series, Lee’s miss may go down as one of the biggest gaffes in finals overtime history.

Volleyball Jump Training

We hear these techniques from world class athletes and trainers all the time, there must be something here. The most important part of volleyball training is proper training. If an athlete jumps repeatedly with poor technique, they can seriously injure themselves. A good volleyball coach or trainer seems to always emphasize the importance of maintaining proper technique at all times.

When volleyball jump training, athletes should keep their knees directly in line with their ankles and not allow the knees to bend over further, reaching to where they are in line with their toes. This position puts stress on the knee, an already fragile part of the body. If athletes feel that they cannot get low enough in the sit before the jump, they should either widen their feet or lean further forward, allowing their rear to extend further back, while keeping a straight back.

Besides keeping the knees in line with the ankles, athletes should ensure that they are pushing off from the whole foot. Doing so ensures that athletes get full power in their jump and are not killing the height of the jump. When jumping, athletes should strive to leave the floor from the middle of the foot or the ball of the foot for maximum vertical.

Finally, athletes should land by rolling through the foot. This protects the knees and ensures stability as athletes move from jumping into another activity. The best way to land a jump properly is to allow the foot to land naturally in the air, with the toes down. This puts the athlete in the proper volleyball-player-picposition to land the jump.

UC Irvine National Volleyball Champions

Provo, Utah – UC Irvine captured the men’s volleyball national championship with 3-2 (26-30, 30-23, 26-30, 30-17, 15-12) victory over USC at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah Saturday afternoon.

It is the second national championship in three years for the Anteaters who ended the season 27-5 overall.

Senior setter Ryan Ammerman was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after recording a career high 13 total blocks, 55 set assists and ties his career high with six kills. Ammerman has 12 block assists which ranks tied for third for the UCI match record books. Senior Taylor Wilson and freshman Carson Clark were named to the All-Tournament team after recording 21 and 15 kills. uc-irvine-champsSophomore Jordan DuFault added 14 kills and a team high 11 digs.

USC was lead by Murphy Troy with a match-high 26 kills Tony Ciarelli and Austin Zahn each played an awesome game for the Trojans. This was a spectacular game for all the fans attending at the BYU Smith Fieldhouse.

Olympic Gold Metalists to Conduct Volleyball Clinic at BYU

j0433173In conjunction with the 2009 NCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship, BYU will host a volleyball clinic on Saturday, May 9th 2009 at noon(MT). The free clinic will be held on the main court in the BYU Smith Fieldhouse and will feature Bejing Olympic Gold Metalists Ryan Millar and Rich Lambourne.

In addition to basic volleyball instruction, Millar and Lambourne will share experiences from their time at BYU and with Team USA.

The National Volleyball Championship match in which many athletes wear our Springbak Springsoles will begin at 5 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and simulcast on ESPN360.com.
